Balancing the Positives and Negatives

Remember when you were in third grade, and you learned that there was a dark
side of the moon? Since astrology is largely based on planetary position, it makes
good logical sense that each astrological sign has a ?dark side? as well.
If we are to have productive and happily lived lives, it is important for us to learn
to balance our positives and negatives. At the very least, a basic knowledge of
both the positive and negative personality traits inherent to us is important in
meeting those goals. Additionally, it is important to realize that changes we have
no control over are going to occur, affecting us on a deep level.
As inhabitants of the Earth, part of the constant influence upon us is caused by the
cycles of the moon. The moon affects the emotions, and is therefore considered
feminine. We already know that the moon changes every few days, as it is
constantly in the flux of change. These changes affect each of us, regardless of
sign, in emotional ways.
Logic and reason must prevail if balance is going to take place in an effective and
efficient manner. This means being in control of your emotions, your thoughts,
and your reactions. It is important to learn to ?go with the flow.? The key to this
harmony is knowledge. Knowledge of who you are, whether you react or
respond, and the manner in which you do either. In our culture, we are more
accustomed to hearing these things classified under the umbrella terms of ?coping
skills? and ?defense mechanisms.?
Knowing the positive and negative traits of your own sign is not enough. It is
important to know and understand those traits in others that you deal with on a
regular basis – spouses, children, parents, siblings, coworkers, bosses, and even
friends. This knowledge can help you make the best choices possible when
conflict or simple adversity arises within your relationships.
Not only negative traits need to be balanced, but positive traits also need balance.
Have you ever been around a perpetually bubbly person about a particular problem
you have? They are so busy being bubbly and positive, they can?t even begin to
hear what you?re saying, identify with how you?re feeling, or give you
constructive advice on how to solve your problem because they are imbalanced
themselves. A positive trait, when imbalanced, becomes a negative trait fairly
quickly. It just goes to show you, positive is not always good, and negative is not
always bad.
Balance means a state of equilibrium ? an equal distribution of substance.
Substance, in this context, means quality. The goal is to have an equal amount of
quality substance on both sides of who you are. The positive can?t function
properly without the negative, and the negative can?t function properly without the
positive. The combination of the two creates equality. And try to remember ?
equal only means equal, it does not necessarily mean the same.

Professional Use of Astrology

Because of the growth of scientific knowledge, and general disapproval of the
public, the use of astrology spent a time in survival mode, functioning only in the
circles of an underground-type community. Recently, however, the west is
enjoying a resurgence of not only interest in, but the practical use of, the science of
astrology.

Some very prominent professionals have been noted for their use of astrology in
treatment. Carl Jung, one of the 20th Century?s foremost psychologists, utilized
astrology to assess personality traits in his patients. Zipporah Dobyns, author and
prominent astrologer, stated in her book ?Personality Assessment Through
Astrology? –

“It is my firm conviction that the psychotherapy or counseling of the future will use
the horoscope as routinely as we now use the interview and background data on
the subject.?

It seems Ms. Dobyns was absolutely correct. Clinical psychologists and
psychiatrists have indeed begun to contribute to the resurgence of astrology.

Being fully aware of the traits of a person is necessary to a proper treatment
program that will actually help a patient. Of course, there are other factors
involved in creating a full treatment program for a mentally troubled person, but
personality is the largest percentage of information to be obtained. This is because
certain treatments work with certain personality types.

However, the sun sign alone will not give the clinician the most information
available. For the most part, the masses are inundated with the daily horoscope for
each sun sign. A clinician would not use a prediction to help assess personality
traits of a patient. They would, however, use the science of the natal or birth chart.

A birth chart, or natal chart as it is sometimes called, tells the real story of your
natural personality. This chart graphs the position of the planets and astrological
houses present in the sky at the very time of your birth. Because of the
characteristics ascribed to the planets and astrological houses this chart can reveal
motivations, desires, positives, negatives, and just why one is the way they are.
The three most important things to review in the birth chart are the sun sign, the
ascending sign, and the moon sign.
> The sun sign reveals the inner-self ? the core of the very being, and how one
sees themselves. This is the most general aspect of personality.
> The rising/ascending sign can be thought of as the outward personality – the
part that is projected toward others, or that others observe.
> The moon sign indicates emotional and intuitive responses – the way one
deals with certain situations.
A clinician seeking to find information about personality would take note of both
the positives and negatives of a particular personality through a study of the entire
natal chart, paying particular attention to the three areas outlined above. There
would also be a time of careful examination concerning environmental factors of
the patient. This would include parents & family, social situations, economic
circumstances, and cultural expectations.
With this amount of information a clinician can formulate a useful and complete
treatment program to facilitate bringing a mentally disturbed individual back to a
thriving and mentally healthy life.

Understanding Your Outward Personality

Most everyone is well aware of their sun sign, but how many know what their
rising sign is, and what it means to who they are?
The sun sign you were born under is based upon the time of year (the actual day &
date) of your birth and represents the zodiac constellation that was in the sun when
you were born. At that same time, no matter when or where in the world that was,
there was an ascending zodiac constellation rising on the Eastern horizon. No
matter what sun sign you were born under, the zodiac sign that was rising in the
East at the time of your birth is your rising, or ascending, sign.
Your rising sign has as much relevance on your overall personality as your sun
sign. Each of us has aspects of personality that show at certain times. There is our
inner personality that we see in ourselves and show only to those who are closest
to us (such as a spouse), the outward personality that shows to acquaintances or
coworkers, and the emotional personality that shows to close friends and family we
trust with who we are.
> Your sun sign reveals your inner-self ? the core of who you are, and how
you see yourself.
> The rising sign can be thought of as your outward personality – the part of
you that shows to others, or that others observe about you.
> Your moon sign indicates emotional responses – the way you deal with
certain situations.
Understanding your rising sign, or the outward personality, is important to many
aspects of keeping balance in life. Some interpret the ascending sign as that part of
us that show our natural defenses – or reactions – to our environment and in coping
with day-to-day issues as they arise in our lives. The descriptive psychological
terms some might be more familiar with are defense mechanisms or coping skills.
A Virgo with an Aries rising is going to react differently to being harshly criticized
by a same level coworker than a Pisces with a Scorpio rising would. The reason
for this is due to the ruling planet in each birth chart, and proves that we are each
unique individuals.
Knowing your rising sign and its inherent characteristics is beneficial to improving
any interpersonal relationship. If, perhaps, you have found yourself unable to get
along with a coworker, friend of a friend, or even a sibling, take the time to find
out the characteristics of your ascending sign. You may be surprised at what you
are projecting about yourself to others! This person with which you are having
conflict may be seeing things in your outward personality that rub them the wrong
way, not knowing it?s simply not who you are at your very core.
Once you are fully aware of your outward personality, you will be able to employ
new coping skills that are more socially acceptable. You will find there is less
conflict in all your relationships after making this transition.

Forget the Future, Build the NOW!

Who could make an accurate list of why people really read their horoscope? Each
day millions of people read their daily horoscope, and they do so for many
reasons. Some are searching for answers to their problems, looking for any inkling
of relief that might present itself. Some are reading just for entertainment, looking
to fill some time. Then there are those who read it simply out of habit ? they?ve
always read it, so they keep reading it, whether it makes a difference in their lives
or not.
The horoscope one can read in public newspapers or on a public website is written
in very general terms, and can be easily applied to a wide spectrum of situations.
This type of horoscope is not useful, in earnest, to an individual. While it is true
that astrology can and does reveal certain aspects of the future, it is not a fool proof
system, because interpretation is involved.
Astrology is a science, and can not be accurately classified as an art. It is based in
mathematics, geometry, and astronomy, and there?s nothing magical or mythical
about those particular sciences. The entire universe is built upon the laws and
principles of these sciences. There is no magic that is going to change the future
for anyone. The practice of astrology can most certainly aid in maintaining the
foundations of living in the now, but that?s only going to come from understanding
your natural self, the ?you? you were born to be.
One of the ways to accomplish this is to examine your astrological birth chart. A
birth chart, or natal chart as it is sometimes called, tells the real story of your natural
personality. This chart graphs the position of the planets and astrological houses
present in the sky at the very time of your birth. Because of the characteristics
ascribed to the planets and astrological houses this chart can reveal your
motivations, desires, positives, negatives, and just why you are the way you are.

> Your moon sign indicates emotional and intuitive responses – the way you
deal with certain situations.
As you carefully examine these three aspects of your birth chart be sure to take
note of both positives and negatives. Through astrology, you can clearly see what
you have already in your corner and what you need to work on to make your NOW
happy, healthy, and productive.
Could that be the magical part of astrology? After all, knowledge is power.

The Law of Attraction: Bringing Positives to Yourself

Each of the signs of the zodiac has both positive and negative traits. Many of us,
for whatever reason, have a tendency to allow the negatives to manifest in our
lives. Sometimes we get to a point of no return, and can not discern how to turn
our lives back to a healthy balance. The first way to begin to turn this scenario of
life back to rights is to get a copy of our birth chart and find out just what positive
traits come naturally to us.
A birth chart, or natal chart as it is sometimes called, tells the real story of your
natural personality. This chart graphs the position of the planets and astrological

note of both positives and negatives.
Allow yourself to recognize what positives are already present in you, but don?t
delude yourself into believing a positive is present that is not actually there.
However, if the positive is something you would like to develop within yourself,
there?s certainly nothing stopping you from doing so. Any positive you find
within your sign is already natural to you, so developing one is fairly easy to
accomplish.
Recently, many have experimented with the Law of Attraction. Most attest to
having great success with it. They report that when they realize that thoughts have
energy that attracts whatever the person is thinking of to themselves, and they
control their thoughts through meditation, their lives change drastically.
This thought is rooted in Quantum Physics, though much of the scientific
community dismisses that idea, calling it pseudoscience. But this automatic
dismissal causes a quote to come to mind . . .
Every truth passes through three stages before it is recognized. In the first, it is
ridiculed, in the second it is opposed, in the third it is regarded as self-evident.
~Arthur Schopenhauer
Another aspect to consider is that scientific studies show that by mere thought, the
thalamus gland (a gland in the brain responsible for mapping in the body) will
create new pathways within the brain itself. This certainly opens new ways of
thinking for a person, does it not?

The Natural You

The practical applications from knowing the various traits of your astrological sign
and your ascending sign are limitless. With this knowledge you can learn, fairly
quickly, how to balance your life in a practical pursuit of happiness as you discover
who you were, literally, born to be.
Besides the personality traits you were born with, there are other influences every
human being has upon their lives that they have absolutely no control over as they
are growing up. These are environmental influences that come from parents &
family, social situations, economic circumstances, and cultural expectations. They
all factor in as you attempt to achieve a balance in your life that works for you.
The ultimate key to this quest is to consistently realize you are in control of your
own fate. Just as the personality traits of your sun, ascending, and moon signs are
inherent to who you are, the power to overcome any negativity is also inherent to
you. Somewhere within that balance of the positive and negative is the ?natural
you.?
The first step in this sojourn is to obtain a birth chart. A birth chart, or natal chart
as it is sometimes called, tells the real story of your natural personality. This chart
graphs the position of the planets and astrological houses present in the sky at the
very time of your birth. Because of the characteristics ascribed to the planets and

there?s certainly nothing stopping you from doing so. Any positive you find
within your signs is already natural to you, so developing one is fairly easy to

The same goes for negatives. Recognize what negatives are already present, but
don?t allow yourself to see negatives that are not actually there. Consistently keep
the thought ?I am learning who I am, and through that knowledge I am going to
become a balanced person? in the forefront of your mind. Allowing yourself to
take on negatives that are not really part of you is not going balance you, but have
an opposite affect.

Watch For Cycles & Patterns

If you had access to a chronicled record of your thought patterns, emotional cycles,
and your personal responses to the environmental conditioning you have received
in your life, would you find it valuable? How would having a tool such as this be
beneficial to various aspects of your life? For example, how would it help you to
make tough decisions? How would it affect your determination to never again
make that detrimental mistake you made that you regret? Would it enable you to
make choices for your future that were better for you than if you didn?t have this
record?
Astrology, in an overwhelming number of aspects of the science, is the study of
individual behavior patterns or cycles that repeat themselves. All you need to
answer all the questions above is a birth chart. A birth chart, sometimes called a
natal chart, is a graph depicting the position of the astrological houses and planets
in the sky at the very moment of your birth. To obtain this chart you need the date,
exact time, and exact place of your birth.
Proper analysis of your chart is quite revealing, and can lead you in recognizing
your personal patterns and cycles of life, love, and work. In the past decade
psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists, and other professionals are using astrology
to pinpoint certain personality traits that are causing a person difficulty in life.
Many life coaches are using astrology to help people recognize when they are in a
proverbial rut, and encouraging them to pay attention to certain triggers in their
actions that are causing them to feel stuck.
On your individual birth chart, the sun sign (the sign based on the date you were
born) and ascendant (or rising) sign will reveal the patterns of your mind; the
moon nodes will show you about conditioning; and the moon sign will expose
your emotional responses or reactions.
Let?s look at some examples by categorizing them within the elements.
In each astrological sign there is a ruling planet. If the predominant planet of a sign
is in a ?stressed aspect? and is located in water, this person is sure to need to refine
their emotional responses, reactions, and disciplines, as they would be considered
very ?Emo.?
If the plant of another is stressed within a fire sign, self centered and impulsive
behavior needs to be modified. The need to become more sensitive, loving, and
develop a higher level of patience is absolutely necessary.
When in an air sign, a stressed plant will cause an individual to discipline their
mind and thoughts to produce clarity and reduce erratic thinking. This includes
how thoughts are communicated to others.
And finally, if it is the earth sign that the stressed planet is caught, there is entirely
too much attachment to the physical realm in the form of materialism. Obviously
there are security issues to deal with.
Learning to recognize these patterns and cycles, and adjusting accordingly, can
drastically improve your situation and position in life.

Vocational Astrology

American companies spend approximately $400 million annually on pre-screening
potential employees. These personality-based tests are analyzed to discover
predictors of performance an employee will put forth on behalf of the company.
This practice has gained popularity among Human Resources managers over the
last decade to help alleviate the overhead costs of a ?bad hire.? Understandably so,
considering a business will spend the equivalent of a full year?s salary recruiting,
hiring, and training a new employee.
Human Resource managers could save their companies a lot of money if they
simply determine the astrological sign of the potential employee! The astrological
signs are one of the best predictors of specific personality traits inherent to a person
born under a particular sun sign.
Astrology is not hocus pocus, it is an actual science as valid as a psychological
personality test. Granted, since the science of astrology has been exploited as
merely entertainment across the world, most find it difficult to see astrology as a
science. Those whose vocation it is to make astrological predictions spend years in
the study and apprenticeship of the science. Their accuracy and reliability grow
with each passing year, and most never forgo deeper study and understanding.
Why, on average, does every person endure a change in career three to five times
in their adult life? Mainly because they choose the wrong career and end up being
unhappy in their work, or worse, unsuccessful. Many people make the mistake of
choosing a career only on the basis of what they are interested in doing, rather than
what they are inherently good at doing.
Our positive abilities come to us naturally because of our personality. Sun signs
are an obvious determination of personality. An in depth analysis of the sun sign
reveals the true aptitude of an individual. Let?s use the sun sign of Virgo to show
how well this works.
> The Virgo has a tendency to be a workaholic and always needs something to
do, as they get bored easily.
What employer wouldn?t want absolutely all their employees to have this as part of
their personality?
> The Virgo is deep thinker, good at strategy, and extremely detail oriented.
Virgo always plans their work, and works their plan. No fact goes
unchecked and double checked. A good listener and willing to ask the tough
questions, nothing disorderly has an opportunity to survive with Virgo.
The combination of these traits is an excellent foundation for vocations such as
office manager, project manager, journalist, accountant, lawyer, or life coach.
> A Virgo has an inherent fascination with what makes people tick
This trait allows Virgo to be phenomenal therapists, counselors, social workers, or
human resource managers.
> Virgo is an earth sign, so the Virgo has a love of nature, as well being very
health conscious.
These traits translate into more than capable doctors, veterinarians, biologists,
holistic healers, or nutritionists,
Isn?t it fascinating? If you are evaluating what vocation you would like to pursue,
look to your sun sign to find your way!
